‘One Mic, One Life’

And we’re back! We’ve been looking at the knife crime stats go down slightly during the lock down and social distancing. But what happens when we’re let back out? A recipe for a spike in crime in particular knife and gang crime. As old beefs get settled and new ones created, as everything young people do right now moves to social media.

We need to be ready, we need to continue the fight. The fight to continue to provide positive diversions for young people, making a real difference. The success of our work has been built on forming relationships with young people, gaining their trust and working with them to develop projects.

Creating positive diversions for young people.

Now we move to a different place, their ‘real’ world online to social media we go! We have to admit we’ve benefited from working with fantastic partners like Somers Town Youth Club, Affinity Allstars and Maiden Lane. They have the youth workers, the resources and have nurtured relationships with local young people for years. We’ve never had to work hard to get ‘bums on seats’. We make young people the centre of everything we develop and deliver.

Our 'One Mic, One Life' Project challenges young people to talk about knife and gang crime, together in a safe space.

Get involved

One Mic, One Life is back and we’re excited to continue our fun and exciting workshops. Yes we’re slightly off the pace, but we wanted to get our online package right. Spending a few weeks to see where our young people are engaging; and what methods to adopt that would reach them the most.

Young people can now access online varied activities and flexible support; which includes creative workshops, group and fitness activities, one to one support and advice and access to employment, training.

Cheerleading and tumbling

Our weekly cheerleading and tumbling sessions are back! A great way to learn new skills, make life long friendships and build confidence, strength and overall fitness. Classes will be streamed across our secure video conferencing system which allows everyone to participate in a fun and safe environment.

We’re also recruiting new members that’s the great thing about going online. We’re able to teach more young people, who may not have had the opportunity to attend previously. Sessions will be delivered by Autumn all the way in Florida ; which is as exciting as it is new and fresh to us. Part of our Coach 2 Success project, Autumn is now coaching cheerleading in the USA. That’s the magic of ‘One Mic, One Life’. We really do #makeadifference
