Empowering local people to create, inspire and build stronger communities.

Creating positive diversions.

We deliver lots of fun and exciting workshops for young people.

We want to create more positive diversions for and with young people and introduce creative ways to help them develop, become more independent and more open minded. The key is building their social and communication skills, giving them the tools to interact with lots more people, get employment and generally gain the right amount of confidence to succeed in life.

Alleviating knife, gang and other crimes and working directly with young people and people in the community who are affected by crime, is something we’re truly passionate about.  We want to ensure that our services are having the biggest impact and reaching children and young people the most in need.

We work with children and young people who are marginalised through poverty and unemployment, have recently been excluded from school or have just been released from prison and are susceptible to crime.

Throughout the year we deliver a series creative skills based workshops and an awareness event.  Our workshops are exciting, fun and creative and a great way for young people to meet new people and learn new skills. There’s something for everyone, from DJ’ing, cheerleading, spray painting, fitness and so much more.

Talking to young people about their needs, aspirations and fears is probably the most important aspect of One Mic, One Life.

Throughout the year we’re holding a series of focus groups led by local musicians and speaker Awate.

Why do you think there’s been an rise in knife and gang crime?
— Awate

Understanding what young people go through in their everyday lives and working with them to solve the key issues they face is vital.

The focus groups set the foundations for young people to come together, discuss what’s effects them and gives them the tools to start campaigning for change.
