Camden Mobile Food Bank

Thanks to the wonderful generosity of Tesco bags of help and Camden Giving KX fund and the wonderful local people who voted for us, our young volunteers were able to set up a mobile food bank. Supporting vulnerable families who live on local estates, our young volunteers provide wonderful food parcels to those who really need it.

Meet Lexi, she volunteered at our Mobile Food Bank, really making a difference to her local community.

Mobile Food Bank Volunteer Roles

We are looking for volunteers who can commit 4 hours a week to support local young volunteers manage and run our Mobile Food Bank.

Working with young volunteers you’ll be responsible for providing guidance and support, attend supermarket and food collections, help sort and package food parcels and go out on local estates delivering food to those most in need. Other duties will include updating a stock database and assisting young volunteers to create marketing and publicity materials.

 Other food bank Roles

Our main volunteering roles are focused on the Mobile Food banks core service – collecting  food donations and re-gifting them to local families and elderly people living on housing estates. To do this we need:

 Stock gatherers and sorters

You’ll help to support our young volunteers to collect food donations and sort our stock. Sometimes you’ll help to put together food parcels. We’re looking for volunteers with an eye for detail.

 Delivery volunteers

We do our best to deliver food parcels to those who really need it, who have no means of transport to come and collect, as well as collecting donations from local supermarkets, schools and people who can’t get to us. You’ll need your own mode of transportation our young people use their bikes, but a car/van is preferred.

 Outreach programme volunteers

We run monthly pop up events to collect food donations and raise awareness directly on estates in the Cantelowes and Somerstown Wards in Camden. We operate, in partnership with local housing associations to access their community spaces, charities and Children’s Centres. You’ll be the face of Urban Community Projects , as well as working behind the scenes to prepare the food stock.

We always encourage our volunteers to undertake training and link up with local networks that provide support.  We hope your experience of volunteering with us will give you develop new skills.
